I know there is so much controversy between chiropractic and medical care, but if it were not for chiropractic I would still be in pain. A car accident left me with constant lower back pain. I tried everything from painkillers to preparing to have surgery. I heard stories from my friends who had surgery and to this day wish they never had it. So I decided to go to a chiropractor before the surgery and I am so thankful that I did. My back pains are gone and I am living my life to the fullest and pain free.

Massage can be defined as:  The manipulation of the soft tissues of the body for therapeutic purposes; used to develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical function and relieve pain.

Massage is a healing art which melts away stress and tension, relieving associated headaches and muscular spasms, aches and pains. Massage also aids in the healing process from injury or over-use, is an excellent form of preventive health care, and raises immune system efficiency.

Different Types of Massage Include:

  • Deep Tissue: Releases the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contacted areas, either following or going across the grain of muscles, tendons and fascia. It is called deep tissue, because it also focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue.
  • Myofasical Release: A form of muscle tissue manipulation that is used to release tension in the fascia. The technique of using long stretching strokes, release muscular tension and helps diminish myofasical toxic waste products and trigger points occurring in muscles which have held the spasm for a prolonged period of time.
  • Trigger Point Therapy: Also known as Neuromuscular Therapy or Myotherapy, Trigger Point Therapy is often used in conjunction with Myofascial Release. "Trigger points" are painful irritated areas of spasm and pain in muscles. Pressure to trigger points can restore normal muscle function, allowing the muscle to relax and lengthen. By relaxing the muscle, it enables it to move in coordination with the muscle group.
  • Reflexology: Massage based around a system of points in the hands and feet thought to correspond to all areas of the body.
  • Shiatsu: Also known as Acupressure, this is the Oriental based systems of finger-pressure which treats special points along acupuncture "meridians" (the invisible channels of energy that flow through the body).
  • Sports Massage: Massage therapy focusing on muscle systems relevant to a particular sport.
  • Swedish Massage: A system of long strokes, kneading and friction techniques on the more superficial layers of the muscles, combined with active and passive movement to the joints.
