There are occasions when your spine slips or clicks out of alignment,
causing shooting pains, stiffness and--more often than you may
realize--headaches, numbness and tingling. The pain you tend to feel in
your back or neck is caused as your spine's misalignment pinches nerves
which, in turn, causes your muscles to tense up.
Every organ, tissue, and cell is affected by nerve impulses traveling
from your brain to every part of your body. Nerves make possible all
physical movement, as they transmit stimulation to all muscles, bones,
and joints; they transmit all sensations to the brain; make possible all
sight, smell, taste, touch, and hearing; maintain your balance and keep
your body at a normal 98.6 degrees; make it possible to swallow; make
your bowels move; control your liver, lungs, heart, spleen, pancreas,
gall bladder, and kidneys; control the circulation of blood. As you can
see, complete, perfect, natural health comes only when you have a
complete, perfect, natural, and normally functioning nervous system.
Nerves are affected by the adjustment or manipulation of bones and soft
tissue. Our main emphasis at Health Focus is on the chiropractic
adjustment, or manipulation, and neuromuscular therapy.
Manipulation can be defined as: Treatment using the doctor's hands to
apply body leverage and a physical thrust to one joint or a group of
related joints to restore joint and related tissue function, improving
biomechanical and neurological function. Through the use of
manipulation, normal motion of the spine is restored, tight muscles are
relaxed, coordination is improved, and pain is inhibited. Spinal
manipulation is the most common form of manipulation and should not be
confused with other forms of manual therapy, such as mobilization and
massage.
